BT will use a combination of its existing Standard Life defined contribution (DC) scheme and the National Employment Savings Trust (NEST) for auto-enrolment.
The telecommunications giant will begin auto-enrolment on 1 November for any employees who are not active members of a pension scheme. BT pension director Kevin O'Boyle said the company has always operated its own form of auto-enrolment, but about 7,000 employees are not members of any scheme. He said this included 2,000 employees who opted out and 5,000 pensioners who are still working for the company but have already claimed their pension.
