‘Inappropriate' active member discounts (AMDs) could threaten the success of auto-enrolment and must be restricted, Legal & General has warned.
L&G pension strategy director Adrian Boulding told IFAonline's sister title Professional Pensions the arrival of auto-enrolment could result in a significant increase in the number of people who are caught in a scheme using discounts for active members. Boulding said this is because members who miss the 30 day opt-out window, but later leave the scheme would be treated as deferred members and be subject to AMDs.
