The Pensions Regulator (TPR) is set to launch another crackdown on pension liberation schemes.
The pensions watchdog held a briefing this morning for industry insiders to promote its forthcoming campaign. TPR is expected to launch the push on 14 February. Last year, TPR highlighted the problem of pension liberation - where schemes are set up to extract pension fund cash from occupational or personal pensions before the legal retirement date - due to the number of bogus outfits operating scams. It said some scheme members had been left suicidal after taking out such offers, then finding they were liable for massive tax charges as the schemes were invalid.
