The role of advisers must be a key focus for the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) market study into the workplace defined contribution (DC) pension market, according to Aegon.
The OFT launched its study - to determine if the pensions market is working well for consumers - in January and will work with government, regulators and the industry in July to finalise its recommendations and next steps. The final report, due in August, will also consider whether there's sufficient competition in the market to keep charges low, whether there are barriers to switching between schemes and the extent of employer engagement in pensions.
