The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has amended regulations to provide alternative pay period definitions for assessing jobholder status and scheme quality.
The change is one of several amendments to regulations following a consultation on streamlining auto-enrolment (AE). Industry figures had raised concerns that confusion over pay reference period definitions could lead to employers underpaying contributions (PP Online, 31 January). These changes also extend the AE joining window from one month to six weeks, and extend the window for employers to provide information to members on their opt-in and joining rights to six weeks.
