The planned cap on the cost of care, including long-term care for the elderly, has been put on hold until 2020, the government has announced.
The cost of care for over 65s was set to be capped at £72,000 for the over 65s from April 2016. Younger adults with disabilities were also to be included under the flagship government plan. Up to a quarter of people in the UK are expected to use long-term care at some point in their lives. Average weekly bills can hit £700. The Department for Health said the delay, until 2020, was in response to concerns expressed by "the Local Government Association and many other stakeholders" about the time frame for implementation.
