Two in five adults confused about social care reform proposals - Just Group

About 22 million adults in the UK did not understand the proposed reforms to social care policy, with many consequently dismissing the need to plan for their own later life care, according to research by retirement specialist Just Group.

One-fifth of the adults surveyed believed that they no longer had to plan for their future care costs, while two-thirds (66%) failed to correctly identify the limit of the proposed care cap (£86,000). The survey was conducted among 2,000 UK adults in late November 2021 by Opinium on behalf of Just Group. Additionally, it found that 81% of the adults did not know that they may have to pay more than £86,000 overall once daily living costs and excess fees above the local authority rate were included.
