Welsh MP Nick Smith has written to the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) urging it to include more consumers within its proposed £71.2m British Steel compensation scheme.
In a letter, seen by Professional Adviser, Smith voiced his hope that the proposed review period for the scheme, covering advice given 26 May 2016 to 29 March 2018, met the legal test to allow for the wider two-year window. "We very strongly support the scheme being opt-out so it can reach more people. But we have concerns that not all those who could reasonably expect compensation will end up doing so if the redress scheme only captures 1 March 2017 to 29 March 2018," said Smith in the letter.
