Harriett Baldwin has been elected as the chair of the Treasury Committee beating four other contenders to lead the influential panel.

Five candidates were nominated for the role of chair, triggering an election between:  Baldwin, MP for West Worcestershire; John Baron, MP for Basildon and Billericay; North East Bedfordshire MP Richard Fuller; former Tory party leader candidate and MP for South Northamptonshire Andrea Leadsom and Kit Malthouse, MP for North West Hampshire. Baldwin was a key figure in the debate surrounding the introduction of the Retail Distribution Review.
